You’re good at what you do. Your clients leave glowing, they come back, they refer friends. But your Instagram doesn’t reflect any of that, and your calendar still has gaps you’re hoping will fill.
Here’s the honest truth: Instagram won’t fill your books because you post. It fills your books when your profile, your content and your DMs work together as one simple system. This guide walks you through that system, step by step, in the order I set it up for my esthetician clients.
Step 1: Fix your profile before you post anything else
Every good post sends people to your profile. If your profile doesn’t convince them in five seconds, the post was wasted.
- Name field: include what you do and where. “Ada | Esthetician in Lagos” is searchable. “Ada 🌸” isn’t.
- Bio: one line on who you help and with what, one line of proof, and one clear call to action. For example: “Helping busy women clear stubborn acne and dark spots. 500+ clients treated. Book your skin consultation below.”
- Link: go straight to booking. Every extra step loses people.
- Highlights: Results, Reviews, Treatments & Prices, FAQ, and How to Book. These answer the questions people would otherwise DM you about.
- Pinned posts: pin your “meet your esthetician” Reel, your best before and after, and your most-saved educational post.
Step 2: Post with a purpose, not a mood
Random posting gives random results. Give every post one of four jobs, and rotate through them each week:
- Trust: who you are, your space, your standards, your story.
- Expertise: teach one skin topic per post. These get saved and shared.
- Proof: before and afters (with written consent), reviews, client journeys.
- Booking: open spots, offers, event timelines, “comment for my next openings”.
Three to five posts a week is plenty if each one has a job. Consistency beats volume every time.

Step 3: Get found by people near you
Most of your future clients live within a short drive of your studio, so local discovery matters more than going viral.
- Use keywords in your captions. Instagram search reads them. Write “hydrafacial in Abuja” or “microneedling for acne scars in Austin” naturally in the first line.
- Add your location tag to posts and Reels.
- Use 5 focused hashtags. Instagram now limits posts to 5, so make them count: treatment hashtags plus local ones like #lagosesthetician.
- Add text on screen to every Reel. Most people watch with the sound off, and the first two seconds decide whether they keep watching.
Step 4: Turn engagement into conversations
Likes don’t pay your rent. Conversations do. The simplest way to start them is a keyword call to action.
- End posts with “Comment GLOW and I’ll DM you my next openings.”
- Reply to every comment within the first hour. It helps the post, and it’s the polite thing to do.
- When you DM someone, don’t send your price list first. Ask one question about their skin, then recommend the right treatment.
- Use Stories daily: polls, question boxes and “2 spots left this week” with a link sticker. Stories are where warm followers decide to book.
Step 5: Track the only numbers that matter
Followers are nice. Bookings are the point. Once a month, check:
- Profile visits: are your posts sending people to your profile?
- Link taps: is your profile convincing them to click?
- DMs started: are your calls to action working?
- Bookings from Instagram: ask every new client how they found you, and write it down.
If profile visits are low, work on hooks and Reels. If visits are high but link taps are low, fix your bio and highlights. If DMs come in but don’t book, work on how you reply.
Step 6: Make it sustainable
The estheticians who win on Instagram aren’t the ones with the best camera. They’re the ones who show up every week. Plan your week’s posts on Sunday, film everything in one afternoon, and post a little every day. That’s it.
